Admission Requirements for Bachelor Degree in South Korea

Bachelor degree programs develop key practical skills and theoretical knowledge required for employment in a particular area or continued education. Bachelor degrees are provided by many of the accredited public and private universities and academic institutions in South Korea and generally last for 4 years.

A Bachelor's Degree exam in South Korea can be completed in the following disciplines- Law, Korean Language, Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, Public Administration, Home Economics, English Language, Education and Nursing. Such exams are helpful for students wanting to continue their education on the Master's or PhD level.

Academic Requirements

Applicant must have completed high school education or its equivalent for admission to a Bachelor degree program in South Korea. Completion of at least 12 years of education is a must for a bachelor degree program.

Admission Procedure

Applications may be made directly to your chosen institution. Also, the Korean Government provides an online service for international students who register at its Study in Korea  website. 
Follow these steps-

Step 1: Each Institution has their own application form- online or offline. Visit their respective websites and know about the admission procedure and requirements

Step 2: Fill out an application form of the institution you wish to study at.

Step 3: Submit the form along with the application fee payment and relevant documents. If applying via online mode, upload all the documents as attachment files. Print the online application form after submitting it. If applying via offline mode, submit the application along with fee and documents to the Admissions Office. 

Step 4: If accepted, you’ll receive an entry confirmation.

Step 5: After you receive the entry confirmation, apply for visa. Contact the Korean Embassy in your country (For International Students)

Application form and fees

Letter of Recommendation: To get a letter of recommendation, you should choose a faculty member who knows you and your academic abilities and potential very well. It should highlight your academic achievements and skills, and personal qualities that make you perfect for the program you have applied to. At least 2 letter of recommendation are required. 

Academic Records: Official high school transcripts, grades, GPA and course details.

Passport Photocopy

Proof of English and Korean languages: TOPIK scores for Korean language proficiency and TOEFL/IELTS or TEPS scores for English language proficiency

Proof of Financial Resources: Can be bank statements, or any other form

Acceptance Letter/Entry Confirmation Letter: It must be issued from the Institution that has accepted you.

Portfolio or Video: Applicants who want to pursue arts or physical education program are required to submit a video illustration or portfolio of their work.

Entrance Examination

College Scholastic Ability Tests-CSAT

For admissions into the Universities and Colleges in South Korea, Students have to appear for CSAT exam. CSAT is a standardized test accepted by the Universities and Colleges in South Korea. The test comprises of 5 parts- Math, Korean Language, English, elective subjects- either Social or Natural Sciences, and Foreign Languages. 

Language Proficiency Tests

Applicants are required to prove their Korean as well as English language proficiency in order to gain admittance to Universities and Colleges in South Korea.

Korean Language Proficiency

If the language of instruction in your target Institution is Korean, then demonstrate your Korean language proficiency through TOPIK test. 

Test of Proficiency in Korea, or TOPIK: TOPIK assess the Korean language skills and is used for admission to Educational Institutions and for job seeking purposes in South Korea. 

English Language Proficiency

If the medium of instruction is English, then the TOEFL iBT and IELTS scores are accepted. 

Test of English as a Foreign Language: TOEFL tests English language proficiency in academic settings.

International English Language Testing System: IELTS tests the proficiency in English language of non-native speakers.

Test of English Proficiency: TEPS  is an English proficiency test established by Seoul National University's Language Education Institute to assess South Korean applicants English language knowledge and skills
